Our Story
Founded in 1990, Monet’s Kitchen was created as a tribute to the great impressionist Claude Monet—an artist not only on canvas, but in the kitchen as well. From the very beginning, Monet’s Kitchen has celebrated cooking as both an art form and a way to bring people together.
At its heart, Monet’s Kitchen has always been about family and connection. The story begins with the current owner’s great-grandfather, a WWII veteran who was awarded the French Croix de Guerre during his time in France. While stationed there, he fell in love with French food, cooking, and the deep traditions that surround the table. When he returned home, he married a Taos native and built a life rooted in community, where his love of food and connection became the foundation of the family’s story.
Monet’s Kitchen was later passed to his daughter, who would go on to play a defining role in the store’s history. With an eye for quality, she ran Monet’s Kitchen for many years, transforming it into a true Taos staple. Locals and visitors alike came to rely on the store not just for exceptional kitchen tools, but for trusted advice, thoughtful gifts, and the feeling of being welcomed like family.
Today, Monet’s Kitchen remains family-owned, stewarded by a new generation committed to honoring what came before while thoughtfully shaping what comes next. Rooted in tradition yet inspired by modern cooking and intentional living, the store continues to evolve while staying true to its origins.

Meet the Owners
At Monet’s Kitchen, the guiding belief has always been simple: the kitchen is the heart of the home. Now in its fourth generation of being family owned and operated, a legacy grounded in family and a deep love of food and community is carried on. The current owners honor their New Mexican roots with authentic local offerings while staying at the forefront of modern cookware, tools, and culinary trends.
Their story at Monet's Kitchen started after years spent in demanding corporate careers. They found themselves facing burnout and health challenges that led them back to the kitchen—not just as a place to cook, but as a place to heal. Through real, nourishing food and shared meals, they rediscovered cooking as a form of medicine and connection. That personal journey now shapes everything they do at Monet’s Kitchen.
While they share a deep passion for travel and immersing themselves in culinary traditions around the world, their favorite place has always been at home—side by side in the kitchen, a glass of wine in hand, and Frank Sinatra playing in the background. Today, that love has evolved into a commitment to cooking with clean, sustainable materials, supporting local makers, and empowering others to tell their stories through food.
Whether recommending the perfect knife, introducing a new favorite coffee, or sharing a simple recipe, their goal remains the same: to help you feel confident, inspired, and truly at home in your kitchen. When you walk into Monet’s Kitchen, you’re not just shopping—you’re stepping into a space built on generations of love, craftsmanship, and the belief that the best moments in life begin around the table.
